Foundation News
Thanks to you, we came together in a big way!
Your generosity — through every ticket purchased, every 50/50 raffle entry, and every moment of support—will directly fuel scholarships for Civic Credit Union members and community grants for small nonprofits across North Carolina. Your presence, enthusiasm, and spirit of giving made this year’s Inspiration Celebration truly special. It was an honor to highlight our remarkable scholarship and grant recipients and to shine a light on the impact made possible through Civic’s partnerships and volunteers.
Foundation grant recipients
The Foundation was launched in 2021, and since that time, its scholarships and nonprofit grants have touched the lives of thousands of North Carolinians. More than $1 million has been awarded to nonprofits across the state working to bridge gaps in health, housing, human services and hunger.
During the celebration, past grant recipients were recognized for being dedicated resources within their local communities. The Grant Recipient of the Year was Y Me Mobility Assistance, an organization that provides mobility equipment, specifically lower floor vehicle modifications, for children, families, and veterans.
Scholarship winners, credit union volunteers and partners
Since the credit union began funding professional development scholarships and student scholarships for members, Civic has awarded more than $3.6 million to provide continuing education at the UNC School of Government for local government leaders, NC State Public Safety Leadership Initiative for law enforcement leaders, and education for high school seniors attending four-year universities.
Our first recipient of the Excellence in Law Enforcement award is Pikeville Police Chief Rodney Jarman, someone who has walked the walk and now inspires his team and community. Chief Jarman delivered a heartfelt and emotional acceptance speech and described his lifelong connection with law enforcement. The Inspiration Celebration also honored the Student Scholarship Recipient of the Year, Benjamin Roach. Benjamin is a University of South Carolina freshman and hopes to one day serve as a town or county manager.
All Civic Credit Union volunteers in attendance were acknowledged for helping the credit union’s Advisory Council grow to 1,000 advocates. Anthony Martin, a standout Civic advocate hailing from Marble, North Carolina, was named the Advisory Council Member of the Year.
